Hi everyone, I had wished for a book that was the newest publication date. The information in the book is quite different from the older publication date. I waited for this book for 3 years. I just received the book and it's the old edition (20 years ago). I was so disappointed. The covers are different. I know that it's not outside the rules to post older publication dates, so I accepted the book. Is there anyway to prevent this from happening? Otherwise, I just won't request books where I want a specific publication date. Thanks much for any tips you have to share.

Check the ISBN of the book you received and compare it to the ISBN of the book you wishlisted. If it is a different EDITION, then the ISBNs should be different. If the ISBNs are different, then you can RWP that the wrong book was received. **I've had books sent to me that the sender posted to the wrong ISBN because the ISBN he/she had didn't have a wishlist for it. |

If the ISBN is the same, and that happens, the publisher released the book again and it is legitimate for them to do this. I had a a whole bunch of paperback books from college (1980s) that when posted showed a different release and cover art but the ISBN was the same. Actually not unusual for classics or perennial favorites. In this case you'll need to create an RC stating you want the book published in year xxxx. People also use similarly worded RCs when they're looking for particular cover art or binding type and there are different versions out there.

If you want a specific pub date where there are multiples under the same ISBN, then use a Requester Condition for that book. State in the RC what publication date you want for that book and that they should deny your request if they have an older one. |

What they said Title, author, binding, and ISBN must match. Some books (especially classics) have multiple releases under the same ISBN...20 or 30 years even. Can be trixy to order the version you want under those circumstances. |

I was going to suggest using a requestor condition to get the publication date you want, but Melanie beat me to it. :-) |
