The NoCry Sleep Solution Gentle Ways to Help Your Baby Sleep Through the Night
Author: Elizabeth Pantley, William Sears
A breakthrough approach for a good night's sleep--with no tears There are two schools of thought for encouraging babies to sleep through the night: the hotly debated Ferber technique of letting the baby "cry it out," or the grin-and-bear-it solution of getting up from dusk to dawn as often as necessary. This book was very helpful to us when our daughter was a baby. From birth, she refused to sleep unless someone was holding her or lying next to her in bed. We tried the Ferber method, but quickly realized it was unsuited to our particular needs, and this book gave us insight into reasons our daughter might be having trouble getting to sleep and staying asleep. It also gave us some ideas for specific techniques to use to help ease our daughter into better sleep habits. It didn't end up being the final solution for us, but it did reassure us greatly that there WAS a solution. (For the record, she's 2 now and sleeps well all night long in her own room, and has since she was 17 months old.)

This is an excellent approach to sleep training from a compassionate, intelligent, logical, nurturing mom. My only criticism is the book is a bit long for a sleep-deprived parent to read but worth the time if you can hang in there. It does have some excellent ideas. No doubt about it, Pantley knows her stuff.

Features lots of different ideas, so you can work out what is most effective for your child. Much better than a one-size-fits-all approach.

The logging may seem like a bit of overkill (sure did to my husband) but as a first-time mom it really helped me to see that there really WAS a pattern to my daughter's behavior. Once I could see the pattern, I could see how to adjust it.

This book helped me through many a long series of sleepless nights. Not an easy solution, but what parenting is easy? Rather, this book helps the reader tune into the child and help the child learn to sleep.

Excellent book for parents who want their babies to be well-rested without using the "cry-it-out" method.
