While idly poking around on my bookshelves I saw an interesting title on a spine: The Lost Eden.

Opening it up I find it was orginally titled Noli me Tangere and was directly responsible for getting its author, Jose Rizal, shot by a government firing squad.. The introduction was by no less than James Michener and constituted a rave review.

Anyone know anything about this book?

Never heard of it -- but Wikipedia has a lengthy article about it (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noli_Me_Tangere_%28novel%29). Apparently, the author is considered a hero in the Phillipines and the book is required reading for Filipino high school students. It sounds fascinating. You'll have to read it and let us know what you think!

It is a long book, but I can't resist and am getting started.
