Hey everyone,

Thought this might be of interest to all of you (since we share a love of YA books) so I thought I'd share.

Have any of you heard of the Cybils awards?  These are a group of awards given out every year by a group of over 90 book bloggers to rewards books of the year based on literary merit (like the Newbery awards) AND popularity (like People's Choice Awards) for nine different categories.  They're gathering nominations for books from right now until October 15th, 2009.  Anyone can go and nominate a book provided it meets on of these criteria:

  • First published between October 16th, 2008 and October 15th, 2009.
  • Must be a children's, middle grade (tween), or young adult title. Fiction or Non-fiction is fine, there are categories for both.
  • Must be published in English or bilingual with English being one of the languages.
  • Fits into one of the nine categories: Young Adult Fiction, Fantasy or Science Fiction (YA/MG), Graphic Novels (YA/MG), Non-fiction (YA/MG), Poetry, Middle Grade Fiction, Early Readers/Short Chapter Books, Non-fiction Picture Books, or Fiction Picture Books.
  • Only one nomination per category per person

Anyway, if you have a favorite book published this year that fits, you can go here to nominate it.  This nifty little form will tell you if it's already been nominated or if you accidentally nominated more than one book per category.
