One of the greatest problems for the retarded is loneliness. This is the heartwarming story of two retarded people who fell in love and married, written by the groom's brother, who is (or was, at the time of publication around 1978) a Metropolitan staff reporter for the Washington Post. In the process of reading this book, you learn, not only about the life stories of the bride and groom, but also a lot about the history of the treatment of the retarded. Some nice black and white pictures are included.
I won't say this ranks among the most entertaining books I have read, and it cannot be called exciting, but I am certainly glad I read it, as it makes you realize that the retarded deserve dignity and a chance at the pursuit of happiness just like the rest of us. The couple in this book found a way to obtain them.
