I mailed 3 books from my local post office on Sept. 2 with PBS DC.  I didn't buy the postage through PBS just the DC. Anyway, I didn't get any emails about them being scanned until yesterday (Sept. 15) and the scan was at the post office I dropped them off at! Did they sit at my home post office for 2 weeks? Just thought it looked odd... especially since I mailed a different book out last Thursday (9 days after the first 3) and it was received by Saturday!

Did you send them media mail?  If so, then it may well be normal.  Media mail gets sent on an "as there is room" basis.  If there hasn't been extra space in shipments from your post office for a while, then it's possible that it's been sitting there the whole time.  in my experience, media mail almost always travels just as quickly as first class or priority mail, but I hear others talk about things taking ages to travel.

Are they in Atlanta?  There seems to be a hold up there right now for some reason.  I read something about it on another forum and have noticed several of my things are stuck there.

more than the day it's received. What it may do is sit at the BMC's (Bulk mail center) or a P & DC. Atlanta had a lot of redirection due to the weather issues. Also here in KY we had a lot of delays since Sunday due to lack of power ast several facilities.

It is Delivery confirmation and the USPS is only required to scan it upon delivery.  If they scan it before delivery, that's just a bonus.

If you mailed it at a branch ( almost all POs are branches) then it should have left the facility that same day, the PO will get in serious trouble if they leave mail in the building overnight. They do have people check that there is no mail in the building after the final collection of the day. The manager can, and some of them have, been fired for leaving mail in the building.

what probably happened is that it got sent back to you for some reason and the clerks sorting the mail decided that the reason wasn't good so they sent it BACK to the addressee.

Brandy's answer makes sense to me.  I work at one of the PO stations in Austin and several times when a package or letter is returned to the carrier for whatever reason, the mail carrier will take it to a clerk and ask them to handle it so the customer (you) don't have to be bothered for something minor that was percieved as wrong.  Usually it concerns not enough postage or a package that was too heavy to be sent with stamps, but there could be any number of reasons.  Sometimes it is just a mistake in reading the addresses.

Just recently (in the last 2 weeks or so) our last dispatch trip was taken away from our station.  So now, even though our window area is open for customers until 6:30 pm, the last truck leaves at 5:40.  In order to have everything sorted correctly and prepared to go out, nothing we take over the counter after 5 pm is sent out until the next day.  We do get every piece of Express mail possible sent out at 5:40, but we have too much volume to get absolutely everything out.

What reason was given for the scan? Accepted, Forwarded, Attempted, Missent?

There have been weather delays in many areas this past week or so.

I am in PA and it is the way Brandy said. All mail leaves the building the same day it is received in the smaller post offices. Somebody found a couple letters one morning and the supervisor spent the next morning driving them all over the county to get the local ones delivered.

Another weird thing happened with these books! One was received today and apparently it had a late postmark on it. It wasn't postmarked until Sept 15 and I mailed on it Sept 2! Sept 15 is also the day I got the first scan email.

If they were mailed on Sept 2 and returned to me isn't it weird that three things mailed on the same day going to three completely different states (MA, NC, and FL) would come back to my post office on the exact same day??? Tracking them they all left "Enroute to Philadelphia" on the same day as well. I am in a suburb of Philly so I'm guessing the closest majoy hub is in the city.

You say you didn't use PBS postage, did you use stamps or mail at the counter? Did you put into a mail bin or just set at the counter? It is possible that they were put somewhere and overlooked for a while, but 2 weeks is a long time for that. If you used stamps and they were misplaced in the PO, then they wouldn't have been post marked until they were found and sent out.

Although it seems really unlikely, I have seen that more often than not, all the books I mail together, stay together. I see them being scanned at the hubs within seconds of each other.

My husband actually mailed it so I don't know if the PO people put it directly in any bin, but he purchased the postage at the counter and gave the three packages to them there. All three of them have been delivered at this point. After they finally left my local PO it took less than a week for all 3 to get to their destinations. Neither of the other two people noticed late postmarks though luckily. I was worried it would put a "black mark" on my account.

I'm just glad everything seems to have worked out now. Thanks for the help!

I have had a problem this week also with delivery confirmation scans. I usually mail on Friday before work around 5 PM. Every other time within a couple of hours, I will see an Acceptance scan from the PO I mailed from. This week I mailed on Wednesday. There is still not an acceptance scan as reported to this website, therefore I still have not recieved my Quick credits for them. :(

I have checked each DC number at USPS website and they all only have one scan so far. Maybe USPS has changed the way it handles media mail in the past week or 2? I'm just getting a little worried since this is out of the ordinary for my mailings.....that and I mailed out 7 pkgs. and need to mail more this weekend. I am going to try a different PO tomorrow and see if I get scans reported like I used to.

I was also thinking, maybe USPS is having some computer problems, upgrades, backups or something going on which would slow down DC reporting.

It's making me nervous since I have always been able to track the packages better before.

I have the exact same problem.Wednesday I  mailed 6 books from the PO with DC. They scanned all of them and the only one that I got credit for so far is the one that was shipped first class. The media mail ones do not have an acceptance scan yet and that has never happened before.

So quick credit isn't so quick anymore, I guess.  I watched the clerk scan all of mine but that was yesterday, and still no credit showing up.

Update on previous post.

Only my first class mail is getting the acceptance scan, the media mail ones arrived without being scanned again and I did not get  credit until they were marked received.

I wonder if there was a change in their policy because I hate to pay for DC on media mail if it is not working anymore.
