Once she was Princess Siobhan, beloved daughter of the King of the Southern Islands. Now she is a prisoner of the men who killed her family and conquered her home. On a ship heading to a land she's never seen, and doesn't want to have anything to do with. Not to mention her "rescuer," Lord Killian, is forcing her to marry him - refusal means torture and possibly death.

Upon arrival in the North Kingdom, Siobhan's position improves only slightly. She's no longer being physically tortured, but now she must turn spy and conspirator for Prince Seamus, against the Prince's own brother. Prince Padraig turns out to be extremely handsome and charming. Siobhan finds that spending time with him is an easy and enjoyable task. Spying on him, and conspiring against him, turns out to be a bit more difficult. Especially now that she's fallen in love with him. Eventually, she's going to have to choose her path.

Siobhan's path of choice is very windy, and covered in prickly, tangly stuff. She learns a lot about love and the world around her, and eventually her own strength - but it's far from easy. Sometimes it takes a lifetime to see what's in front of you.
