This book, first in a trilogy, begins at the close of the Edwardian era in Gloucestershire, England, and details the devastation caused by World War I on both the people of Northrop Hall, the Arndales -- an upper class family -- and their way of life. Beautiful characterizations, compelling story that really conveys the horror of this first modern war.
