very honest and inspiring travel book.
After the author moves to San Miguel, Mexico in the 1970's she sets up a "base-camp" of sorts and sets out to explore Central America, and rediscover herself. At least that's the premise of the book. There's a whole slew of characters that she meets in abject poverty but who contribute to her journey (both inward and out). I dunno, it was a lot of trivial stories, in my opinion, I just got lost in.

Traveling from the highland desert of Northern Mexico to Steaming jungles in Honduras and from the seas of the Caribbean to Guatemala, Mary morris confronts realities of poverty, machismo. and her own self during this insightful read. During her journey is she starts to come to grips with the some of the struggles of her past that may have held her back prior tot his journey. This is a great union of travel book meets novel meets journey of self. A fabulous read for all.

My friends think I'm brave because I often travel alone, but when one reads Mary Morris' encounters with steaming jungles in Honduras, deserts in Mexico, poverty, and machismo, one is left almost breathless in admiration. This is one gutsy woman.

One of the joys of reading about travel is "being along for the ride." I didn't want to be anywhere near Ms Morris on this journey.
