I always get DC for my books because I'm paranoid that they will end up like socks in the dryer, gone off to a place no one knows! :-P  Anyway, I recently sent a book that had a DC comment that perplexed me: Notice Left.  I guess that means the person wasn't home and a notice was left?  I'm just curious if anyone else has seen this notation before.  Thanks! :-)

Yes, that's exactly what it means.  The postal carrier didn't leave the book for whatever reason but left notice in the mailbox that the customer has a package.  The receiver will either have to go to the PO to pick up the package or have the post office re-deliver it to them on a day when they or someone else will be home to get it from the carrier.

MY DD has this problem receiving books because she lives in an apartment & her assigned mail slot cannot accomodate a book & mail. She gets a notice like that. Maybe your requestor has an undersized (for PBSing) mailbox.

It's not unusual to come aross this - it could be a small mail box, either apartment, house or PO.

Once it is collected, it will be marked 'delivered' - I had one like this just last week.

I can tell you - better that a notice was left than the book was left out where it could be stolen or ruined!  That happens to lots of people.

I agree, Ruth, I'd much rather a notice left than leaving a book open to the elements if there is a small mailbox.  In my year or so here I've never seen this, so I was just curious if others have encountered it before.  I hope the book gets re-delivered or picked up soon so that they can start enjoying the book! :-)

We get these quite a bit. We have an understanding with our mailman (we have rural delivery) that if a package is too big for the mailbox, he is to leave it in one of our cars. But now that all 3 of us have jobs, there are two days a week when there is no car available. On those days, he will leave me a pickup notice. Usually though he will try to redeliver on his own the next couple of days since he can be pretty sure there will be a car available again since my mom only works two days a week.

I have a PO Box.  If the book does not fit they slip a yellow slip in there telling me  I have a package.  IF the book had DC, that shows up as "notice left."  I wouldn't worry!
