Might I recommend (only one!) : The Pearl, by John Steinbeck - Not only is it a classic, but this non-isbn edition from 1960 has drawings by famous Mexican painter Jose Clemente Orozco.

A veteranarian goes to a conference in Hawaii and ends up investigating the murder of a reporter she meets just hours before her death. Note: I had a tough time with 'You won't find any"... The first book in a collection, this delightful read is an account of a couple's month-by-month life in the south of France after relocating there from England. |

A suspenceful, moving story of a young woman who finds herself in Europe with too much time on her hands. She goes off to visit cousins and finds herself captivated with a painting. This begins her adventure in unravelling a family mystery. The book includes her story and that of the female ancestor from centuries before. (A contemporary novel and historical fiction all in one!) |
