I just read my first book by her....Too Late to Say Goodbye. Wow I am hooked! Are all of her books this good.? I have never read a true crime book until this one and I came upon it by accident. Ann Rule was on the radio as I was driving to borders to look for a book. I thought I might as well try her since I have no idea as to what I want. Oh boy was that a good book.

I like her books very much but she has had a couple that I didn't care for.  Of course..since I have read hundreds and hundreds of true crime books..I can't remember the ones I didn't care for but most are very good.  I didn't care for the one about the Green River Killer and also one about some woman doctor.  That's not much help huh?  She really gets into the background of the killer and victim..and that's what I like about her writing style.

When Ann Rule first started writing, I loved all her stuff.  Now that I've read a bunch of different TC authors, her stuff seems boring and repetitive.  I only read about 10 pages of her newest book and all ready took it back to the library.

I agree with Prunella in that her older stuff was better written. A Stranger Beside Me was phenomenal. However, I do read all her new books and while I don't think they are as good I still enjoy them. Carrie, you are in for some great reading if you have just discovered Ann Rule. I've read all of her books.

Ann Rule is still my favorite TC writer. I have enjoyed all of her books, some of than others, true, but I think she is great and you will now be seriously hooked on TC if you start with Ann. I really enjoyed her latest book and unlike Nicki, I really liked the one about the doctor Deborah Green who tried to poison her husband and then set her house on fire, killing two of her three kids, if I remember correctly. What a piece of work she is.   Nancy

Ann Rule is a great place to start with True Crime if you want to get a variety of stories to read.

I personally love AR, she does great backstory and most of her books aren't dry report reading as I've found some other authors. The Stranger Beside Me (what I'm reading now) is incredible. It's not just another Ted Bundy story, Ann and Ted were friends. So, if you're looking into it, that's a great book to start with.

I have really enjoyed her books and it was  interesting to see what everyone else had to say. Like Nicli H. I read one of her books that I didn' tcare for a long time ago a friend gave it to me. I never read anymore then she gave me another one that I couldn' t put down and now I have read many of them and really enjoy them. Bobsy

I read EMPTY PROMISES, not too long ago.   The real-life criminal cases are about the search for love and how it lead to betrayal and murder.  The stories are filled with sordid sex, con-operations and violents.  Some of the stories can leave "readers shaken by the realities of love gone terribly and fatally wrong!"  Not for the faint hearted!  I found this  book hard to put down.....but it may be a while before I read another A.R. book!

The only book I read by her that I didn't like was POSSESSION. It was fiction and I just could not get into it.

I checked her website today and it says that TOO LATE TO SAY GOODBYE is being released in paperback on Nov 20. A month later, her new book will be released SMOKE, MIRRORS AND MURDER. That is one of her books with several stories in one.

In case any one is interested, I saw on her site that she has a section where you can get updates on people that were in her earlier books. I didn't take the time to do that today but I want to get back there soon and check it out.

I have been reading my way through her list.  She is awesome!  My fave was Heart Full Of Lies.  I have Stranger Beside Me on my TBR, and I'll probably read it soon.  :)

I love Ann Rule books! Have you checked out her web site called annrules.com? She has a guest book and there a lot of great people on it. Ann herself is quite down to earth and very friendly.

At the moment, she is sending out signed momentos, including book jackets, business cards, pictures and even some of her old True Detective magazines. I received my packet of goods already and it was pretty cool to get them!

My favorite book of hers is "Everything She Ever Wanted". I like the way she really reseaches her work, keeps it as clean as possible and stays away from the sensationalism of true crime writers elsewhere. I highly reccommend her work!

I read a bunch of them. She does write well and I've enjoyed reading them for what they are. I have a few on my bookshelf if anyone is interested.

Welcome..Ann Rules newest paperback book is ~Smoke-Mirrors and Murder~  It came out recently and is very good.  It is all short stories.  I don't think they make True Crime magazines any longer..that's how I began my interest in true crime books many years ago.

I have to agree with all the members who just love Ann Rule! I have always enjoyed TC, but once I read my first Ann Rule book- I just got hooked on the way she tells a story. I have now read every single one of her books, and especially enjoyed her foray into fiction... "possession". If anyone has not read it, it was fabulous! Anyway, I just found Ann Rule about six months ago, and have literally worn a path to and from my local library trying to get to read all her books until I found PBS. This is my new favorite website! I do have some Ann Rule books listed, as well as a few to be listed in the next week or so. Just wanted to put in my two cents. Just love the way the woman writes :)
