Ok ...we got two black lab puppies about two weeks ago.  We've been taking turns sleeping on the couch at night while they sleep in beds on the floor.  They are crated during the day while we are at work, so I don't like crating them again at night.   But they wake up every two hours to go potty (they actually do unless they are really good fakers!)    How long does it take for puppies to sleep through the night??   They are so adorable.  I wish I could get pictures posted on here. I'll have to figure out how.

Has anyone else had puppies?  What did you do?

How old are they?  It takes a little while...  :-(  It's always hubby's job to housebreak new puppies and daddy-sit them until they sleep all night.

They just turned 10 weeks.  One little guy has had an upset tummy for a couple weeks now.  He was up every hour last night.  He makes it to the door and lets me know he needs to go though.  We were feeding them Nutro Large Breed Puppy, and the vet told us to slowly switch to science diet puppy and maybe that would help.  I always thought Science Diet was full of bad stuff but vets get such a kick back from it they push it.   I could be misinformed though. They sure love the taste of it.

They've learned their names and sit so far :)

The guys wanted puppies so bad.  (husband and son) I  knew I'd end up being the one to take care of them.  If I let the guys do it, they wouldn't be taken care of the way they should. (or at least the way I think they should be!)

Well........ I took one of the furbabies to the vet. They did some tests and he has some kind of upper GI infection and that's probably why they are up every two hours at night (one gets up then of course the other one can't miss out on anything)   I fed them boiled chicken and rice and that worked almost immediately.  No more runs.  One lil guy is on an antibiotic. Poor guy. They did a skin scrape on him too because his tummy has such a rash.  No bugs and no mange so they think it's just a puppy rash.  The antibiotic should help that too.

The vet's puppy is just a week older than ours and sleeps all through the night.  Hopefully we are on the way to that point.

I should have got pet insurance.  anyone have it?

Congrats on the puppies! You are brave for having done two at once!

Sorry to hear one is not feeling well. Keep up with the rice and chicken.

DO NOT switch to Science Diet (yick yuck!) horrible food. Vets do get kickbacks for selling it. Nutro is good. I like Taste Of The Wild ... and other grain-free dog foods. Want help finding a good food: www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/  Another good nutrition/food research site: www.dogaware.com Both of these should be able to help you choose a good food for your puppies.

Congrats again and with two puppies comes twice the work! Make sure you get them out and socilaize socialize socialize!!!

(Nope don't have pet insurance.. In most extreme emergencies.. most vets I know will let you make payments anyway.)

The vets do push Science Diet because they have good salespeople. Canin Royal is supposedly good stuff - and Nutro's not bad either. My friend RAVED about Candidae.

Personally, I think the BARF or RAW diet is fantastic, and the dogs love it.

Hope your little ones are doing better, glad you got them into the vet quickly. :)
