I have done this several times, usually quite successfully.  I have more credits than I can use for me and my family.  If you know of some "deserving" person or institution that could use one or more books purely as a RAOK, I would be glad to order some for them with my excess credits.  Make sure that the books that are wanted are available here, not wishlisted---that is too much hassle to keep track of.  Also whomever the books are ordered for must let me know so that the site can be notified and senders get their credits.

I don't want to just let somebody take advantage of this offer bedcause they don't want to use their credits, but I will leave it up to your discretion.

Surely some of you know of somebody I can order books for.  I now have 100  (!!!) credits and will never use them all.  Let me know.

Since no one is responding, have you considered donating some to the books for schools program?

My daughter attends an elementary school here where we live in the Sierra mountains. Our schools up here are very small and struggle to get enough books. We have some great kids that are VERY avid readers. I know it's been a few months since you made the offer so I'm not sure if it is still something you can do. I would like to extend your offer to our school if you can. I'm pretty new here in PBS so I'm not exactly sure how this works. If you are still willing, please let me know how many you would consider donating. I will then ask them for a list of books close to that number and let you know.

Thank you for being such a generous person,

aka SierraMagick

I have donated 10 credits to the school donation area of the site.  I have also sent a PM to Miko asking for more info. because I would be willing to order 4-6 books for this school library.  This is the kind of situation that I a interested in!

My son and some of his friends collect kid's books to take to a homeless shelter for families. Each child gets to choose at least one book to take along when they move out of the shelter. For some kids it's the first book they've ever owned. The reading room is always in need of more "boy-friendly" books - Batman, Spiderman, and other super-heroes are solid favorites. Send me a PM if you're interested.

I don't have a need for any credits/books but I just wanted to say 'THANKS' Winston for being such a generous member of PBS. I've seen you do this before & I think it's great.

Not sure if you how this works either, but I volunteer for a non-profit organization and am currently coordinating a book drive for the local program that gives books to sick kids, siblings at well visits and to create reading enriched waiting rooms. Our drive ends May 4th and I'll be delivering the books that weekend. We would love some extra help to collect children books. They do need to be appropriate for ages 0-5, no sticker/activity books, and they try to stay away from licensed characters. I personally don't have enough credits to use (3). If you want/can help, please let me know. Thank you so much!!

I volunteer at a Senior Care Center each Sunday afternoon and evening. We do a short service for the folks there and they love the old hymns of the faith. We had about 20 hymnbooks that we kept there on top of the book shelves. Just last week someone "cleaned up" and donated all of our hymnbooks to Goodwill. I am still searching for some hymnbooks to replace the ones we lost. Meanwhile, I know the residents would enjoy this book. There are 5 copies  available in PBS:

How Sweet the Sound: Amazing Stories and Grace-Filled Reflections on Beloved Hymns and Gospel Songs :: George Beverly Shea
ISBN-13: 9781593280314 - ISBN-10: 1593280319

If this is something you would want to do, I would be grateful and know the older folks would be grateful also. Thank you for being so generous. Charlie

I just wanted to bumb this up. He has sent some to a friend of mine in the past and I wanted to say thanks so much.  She loved what he sent for her to use for teaching.  They were dictionaries.  Thanks for all you do! Jean

Hi Winston,

You have been generous in the past with Books For Keeps, and if you feel you have enough to spare a few credits (or a few books) for us again, I'd be grateful, as would the kids in Athens, GA. The organization is looking especially for the Wimpy Kids books, which, as you can imagine are hard to get, so I just use my wishlist to stand in line to get as many of those as possible. Thankfully, I've been able to send them about 30 copies in the last couple of months. A few points to help, or a few copies would be wonderful. It's a drop in the bucket of the 26,000 or so books they need to accumulate by May, but every book gets them closer to their goal.

Thank you for your generosity!

I am running a summer literacy camp for low income inner city children. I am looking for people to send a few K-3 books, especially ones that might interest boys. Please PM me if you'd like to help. Even one or two books would be a great blessing.

I still  have an abundance of credits and most of the books I ordered for others in the last batch have arrived, so I want to reoffer this books for others as a RAOK.  Please  check to see that the book you want sent is available here, give me title and ISBN# and address where they are sent and a short blurb on why they are requested and I will help you out.

Another member gave me a heads up about your thread. A friend of mine and her 2 daughters lost most of their belongings in a house fire yesterday. Her oldest is mostly upset about her books. She's 7 and an avid reader. She likes Junie B Jones and Beverly Cleary books. The younger one is 2 and likes train books and books with animals in them. If you could help out that would be wonderful.

I have looked at the site for pbs for school donations and found that its not updated for 2012.I live in Tuscaloosa County which was DEVASTATED by a tornado that demolished alot but also several schools. Alberta Elementary School in Alberta city was leveled. If they plan on updated the school donations site. Could someone add them to the list of schools in desperate need. There are also several other schools also in need that were in the deadly tornadoes path that hit April 27 2011. I hope some of those schools will get added. I know how devastating it was I think it would be so wonderful for the children.

My young friend is getting married next month. I'm sure she would love to have a nice basic cook book like:

The Basic Cooking Bible :: Publications International
ISBN-13: 9781412728461 - ISBN-10: 1412728460            or

The New Basics Cookbook
Author: Julee Rosso, Sheila Lukins
ISBN-13: 9780894803413
ISBN-10: 0894803417

Thank you for considering this request.
