A good read.

As usual her characterizatons are great. I found the premise of The Mob financing a bio weapon a little too far out for my thinking, but others may not. Overall the writing was excellent.

Nancy Kress' OATHS AND MIRACLES has some of the breathless anticipation and terror of Michael Crighton's medical thrillers.
She assembles a cast of quirky characters and puts them under intolerable stress, then turns them loose. Being human, they err, and people get hurt, but they're all doing the best they can.
But will their best be good enough if the Mafia and a rogue biotech company cooperate to develop a totally undetectable form of murder?

From back cover: Two people, the widow of a murdered scientist and an unstable hard-boiled FBI agent, join forces to follow a trail of science and death. It leads them through a biotech company in New Jersey to the Mafia, to a paramilitary splinter group, to a religious commune in upstate New York, and finally to a deadly secret that may be killing someone right now.
