I LOVED THIS BOOK. "Odd Thomas" is the first book in the series by Dean Koontz. I listened to the unabridged audio version.
I have to say I didn't know what was going to happen next and I was often surprised by the events that unfolded. I was always anxious to get back to the story so I could find out what was going to happen, and I was never disappointed. If you compare this story to those written by Stephen King, I would say that this is much less violent, and much less twisted (I can't read Stephen King because the graphhic, horrid details are just too much for me).
I thought it was rather 'cool' to include in the story the ghost of Elvis Presley who often visits with Odd. You see Odd Thomas sees dead people, much like the Haley Joel Osment did in the movie SIXTH SENSE. The character, Odd, also reminded me of the TV series where Darrien McGavin played the newspaper reporter in NIGHT STALKER. The stories were suspenseful but not so scary that they produced nightmares - they were 'odd' but interesting.
And the narrator, David Aaron, was really good. You can really believe that he is Odd Thomas, the 20 year old that works at the Pico Mundo grill in Pico Mundo California. I will probably start listening to the next book in the series, FOREVER ODD, this afternoon; after all I need to know what is going to happen next.
