Hello, I was getting some books down from my shelves and set them in the windowsill where they got wet. Most I just reoved from my list but one has a hold. What can I do? I will still send it to the person for free if they like but I can't remove the book.

I've done that, Maudavee.  It just makes your heart sink, doesn't it?  Mine was due to a leaky window years ago.  Also, I once spilled a cup of tea on a table and didn't realize until a month or two later that it had leaked through a crack onto some otherwise beautiful books below.

Here's one way to handle it:

You can't cancel the order until someone accepts it.    Then you can click that you cannot send the book.  That unposts it.  If you like, in the box where you say why you can't mail the book, you can explain what happened and give the person your PBS nickname.  He can then contact you by searching for you in the membership directory, which is on the Community menu, if he wants the damaged book.

Once you've canceled the wish list offer, you can go to the Book Bazaar, if you like (it's a discussion forum, and discussion forums are under the Community menu.)  You can offer it there either as a freebie, or as free with an order from your bookshelf, or there's even a thread for unpostable wish list books where you can ask for a credit.

Also, if you are nearing the end of the 48 hour wish list hold period, and the wisher hasn't responded, you can put your bookshelf on Vacation Hold.  That way if the wisher doesn't respond, the book will go to your bookshelf instead of being offered to the next wisher in line.  You can delete it, and then take your bookshelf off vacation hold.

Thank you for the info, yes it was a small leak in my window, that this morning's storm just reveled. I didn't notice anything until I picked up the books and felt the wet :( Ah, well I will dry them and offer them as you said in the Bazaar, I don't mind giving the books but I didn't know what to do on the hold because I was thinking I would have to keep explaing the problem as the book moved down the list, so your information is very helpful and makes me feel better :)
