Received a book today....damaged!!!

1.  Water damaged - not wrapped in plastic (yeah not required). Pouring rain here..it is winter.

2.  Wrapped on with two sheets of printer paper - ripped open in several places.

3.  Scotch tape only tape used and not much of it at all.

4.  Wrapping taped directly to the book.

No, it is not a new member...joined in April of 2007 so, that excuse doesn't fly.  Reported it RWAP and have requested a return of my credit (we'll see if that happens)....and made special note to TPTB of what was wrong...

Poor little book!!!

Ok, I marked the book RWAP at 10:04 EST...took a few minutes to type the response to the sender...do you know that by 10:22 EST I had my credit refunded AND a very nice apology from the sender....color me amazed!!!

I just received a set of books (5) today that smell mildewy.  It also appears that their are mildew spots inside the box.  I know the rules state no water damage and no mold.  I think this book should have fell in that category.  I have asked the librarian for assistance.  I would have never listed these.  Or if I did I would have pm'd the requestor to let them know.  Needless to say, I am feeling bad that I think I will mark them RWAP.

I understand just where you are coming from.  It is very frustrating.

The two times I've asked for my credit back, the sender did so right away.

Mildew is mold, Wendeline, so if you have mildew, treat it as a box of moldy books .... which must really suck. I'm sorry.

Maybe they need to reword the guidelines to say "no books with anything growing on them."  Seriously, that should be not even need to be said!

The last 3 RWPs I had to mark were from long term members.  All were obviously unpostable.  Generally if it's something that could easily be missed, I don't mark it RWP.  Like a tiny stain someone where that I was really lucky to even see. Or where it might be on it's last read. But these were obviously unpostable-big nasty stains, loose pages-no way to miss.  And from long time members.

Maybe your person ran out of mailing tape and decided to take a chance.  Sometimes I do them up in scotch tape first (like a present) and go over them with mailing tape.  Maybe they do the same thing and then forgot the mailing tape.

We always hear about in the forums the times when people have bad experiences with senders.  Often people just goofed up and they make good.

The one and only time someone marked one of my books RWP, as soon as I discovered the problem (it was an audiobook, and one of the CDs were missing--my sister gave it to me to post, and I forgot to check!  Last time I make that mistake!) I refunded the other member's credits before she even asked.

Sometimes people make mistakes, but there are a lot of us on PBS who are happy to make things right if we mess up!

I think I've sent out two books with problems.  As soon as I found out the problem I sent them their credit.  One was a mistake on hardcover/paperback.  I can't even remember the other.  I always feel so bad about that.
