I'm super new (first post, signed up today) and promptly listed 12 or so books I had laying around the house. Much to my excitement, 5 of them were requested right away (well 4, plus a wish list - which I don't fully understand but that's another post). I made sure the requestors' requirements were all met by my books and accepted them, then chose a 'ship by' date. I called my friend to share in my excitement and when I rattled off the books I'd be mailing out, she sweetly reminded me that one of them was actually hers on loan to me. OOPS!! I mistook it for another I have in my office and am so embarrassed - both to my friend, and to the requestor that is expecting the book. I searched the help topics and saw that since I diidn't print the wrapper, I can still cancel the order. But, I feel terrible. Will the person know who I am? Is this a terrible thing to do? Being a super new person here, I don't want to start out wrong ya know? |

The requester will be able to see who cancelled it. May even thing you are a little air-headed but no harm, it happens. Just cancel it quickly and their request will go to the next person with the book if there are other copies available. Welcome to PBS and Happy Swapping!. |

Hi Kelly! Welcome to PBS. :) Just promptly cancel the request so the person will go back to her place in line and hopefully get another copy posted soon. Just explain you made a mistake and don't worry too much. Everybody makes mistakes! |

Thank you both! I just cancelled the request and then sent her a PM to explain my mistake. Oy, how embarrassing. I don't see the book listed on My Bookshelf anymore - did it automatically get deleted then? I need to return it to my friend and make sure it isn't requested by someone else.
Thanks!!! |

When you cancel a request, the book is automatically deleted from your posted books. So you're good to go. |

When someone orders a book from you it is taken off your shelf also........right....... |

Hi Kelly, I'm sorry that happened. Sounds like something I'd do. At least you mentioned it to your friend before you had mailed her book. Now that would have been embarrassing. Welcome to PBS. Nancy |

Welcome to PBS Kelly! No worries tho, real life happens and most (if not all) of us have had to cancel a transaction for one reason or another. The system is set up to cancel transactions...'cause stuff happens. Last year I had a transaction canceled, the sender pm'd that her hubby wasn't ready to part with the book yet (oopsie) and it still hasn't been back in the system again...but when somebody posts this book again, it's MINE!! To minimize confusion, I place my swap books in a box after posting. Then when requested, I pull them out of the box and make another conditon inspection before printing the label and mailing. For me, this keeps books from receiving damage or moving around the house before finding a new home. Last Edited on: 3/28/10 12:22 AM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

Denise - yes, I just decided to round them all up and put them in a couple of totes ('posted' and 'to ship') to minimize confusion. I can see how this new love could get quickly confusing with all of these book piles everywhere! It'll also keep my 2 year old's precious little hands off of them, lol. |

Don't worry about it even those of us who have been on PBS a long time do stuff like that-accidentally post books we didn't want to send out yet, forget to take WL books off our WL that we alreayd have, spill something on a book that was just ordered etc.., Yes it's very helpful to keep your posted books seperate from your TBR books even if it's just a designated shelf on your bookshelf. |
