I just got the mail. There was a book that I mailed out Monday morning. I used PBS DC and printed postage right on the wrapper. It is a small book so it was only $2.31. I got it back today with a sticker that said "Refused by Recipient-Postage Due". This is the first time I've had this happen. The funny thing is I got another book. It's heavier yet it only cost $1.65 to mail!! I guess I should just stick the returned book in the mailbox and see if it comes back again. I don't feel like going to the PO to argue with them Last Edited on: 3/20/08 11:38 AM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

Does it say how much postage was due? Could it be that they didn't notice it was marked Media Mail? |

how much postage was due? if it was a lot I can see why they might return it but if it was a small amount I would have just paid it and let you know. was it maybe not marked media mail? or maybe the PO didn't see that? I'd go ask what was up with that, yes it is a hassle but if you sent it and the postage was correct no reason for them to send it back. |

I'd double check the weight of your book to make sure you had the correct postage in the first place. Sometimes with packaging, it can be heavier than you thought! |

It should show how much postage was due. It could be one of these problems: - PBS's estimates are sometimes wrong - it wasn't mark media mail or the USPS missed that it was marked media - you used priority products (new, used, tape, anything that say priority) so USPS required Priority postage to be paid - it was less than 3/4 inch and floppy so it could not go I'd definitely take it in to find out what the reasoning was and make them resend it if they were wrong. If you just stick it in your box they might not take it, Media Mail postage is for 1 one-way trip. Edit to fix the 3/4 inch and DC issue. Last Edited on: 3/20/08 7:43 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

You should have been charged the amount due to get the book back. If it was marked refused, you should PM the person it was going to and find out why it was refused and then decide what to do from there. If you are going to remail it, it needs new postage. |

I PM'd the person and they said they didn't refuse it. They never even saw the book. It clearly said Media Mail.. My boyfriend just informed me that he went to the PO for me :) The lady @ the counter had no idea why it was returned. She said the postage was correct. She said she'll trying sending it out again. I never had this prooblem before. Sometimes, if a HC is a little heavier, I'll go to the next price bracket, just in case. I just hope this doesn't become a common occurance |

Maybe it was delivered to the wrong person and that person gave it back to the PO and they marked it refused. Someone could have misread the address or something. |

Did the label say first class or media mail? I recieved a postage due book for which the $2.40 was not enough because the label said FC rather than media mail. It would have been enough for the media mail rate, however. Check the book's weight against the weight in the system. I'll bet the weight in the system is off, especially when packaged for mailing. FRUSTRATING PROBLEM. PBS says that the weights in the system are estimates and that we need to check weights before mailing, especially if the label says First Class. |
