I just went back to see if I violated any of the "deals offered" rules here. I did this week. I offered a free Kids Discover magazine with any order. Why did I post this here and not on the BB? Because I wanted the taker to be a homeschooler. So now if I post deals on the BB, that I want to go to HSer's, I have to say, "sorry, only open to HSer's"??? I just think it's not cool that the rules say no deals here. I respect what R&R stated as the rules for the forum. So my "vote" is also for a separate EDUCATIONAL (HSers and teachers) book bazzar. Wonder if we could get a "sticky" topic a the top of page for people wanting to post deals?..

I think many of us have broken the official rules, not realizeing that we were. Personally, I don't care whether a homeschooler or someone that is not a homeschooler orders my books.I get satisfaction just knowing that someone is benefiting from them, homeschooler or not. But what I have on my bookshelf is usually of interest to homeschoolers and not so much to others. Sherry |

I like the sticky topic idea that would be nice as long as it gets cleaned out on a regual basis because I have seen some threads go on forever. maybe it would be ok to announce you have a deal avaliable in the bazzar and provide a link to your offer I don't see how that breaks the rules or put your offer in your signature line. it's just some ideas. angel |

Opinion Poll: Would it be within the rules to post here "Hey, I have a deal over at the bazaar". so we'd all high-tail it over and snatch up all the homeschooling stuff, like we were a crack team of commandos? |

The sticky idea is being floated on the Questions board for EVERY genre board... if you like the idea, please add your voice to the chorus and write to R&R to ask about it!! ;) Another great suggestion to add to the sticky idea was to allow each board to have one or two moderators who would have the power/authority to delete posts and clean out the sticky thread, OR to have it automatically purge itself (if this is possible) each month/quarter and start fresh, keeping it short and relevant. :) |

Hi, I'm a homeschooler. I have offered deals here since the majority of my books are children's and educational. I also offer the deals on the BB. However, the BB is flooded with deals and often the posters don't say what their books are. People here look at and take my offers, while the BB seems to be a waste of time. On the swapping end if I see an offer here on this forum I look at it as you probably have the kind of books I want. But when I've looked at deals in the BB it could be all other genres that I have no interest in and it is a waste of my time. I have not looked at the deals offered rules lately. It seems to me the rules keep changing on PBS. The only thing I will say about magazines is if you send them to anyone the USPS rules are magazines with advertisements cannot be sent media mail, must go parcel post or first class or any other class. Media mail doesn't allow advertisements. I think this was written so companies who use mail for advertisements wounldn't use it but oddly it applies to private citizens sending magazines to each other. |

Since deals have to be posted in the bazaar, I don't see why we can't put HOMESCHOOL in the subject so that others can see what's being offered. Those kinds of posts would be much easier to find, especially with the search function. Michele

You know to be totally honest, they offer deals in the teacher's corner and on all the forums like the children's, chick lit etc. So I'm not really sure I understand the big deal on this, has anybody asked for a clarification on that rule. I mean is it absolutely no deals or no bookshelf deals. I liked having the homeschool book deals posted here. Sorry if I'm rehashing stuff! |

I'm not a really regular poster around here, but I just wanted to chime in to say that when I DO have time to come to the boards, I first come here - specifically to look for HS deals but then also to follow other threads of interest - because I know I'll be more likely to find something of interest. I have gotten deals from the BB before, but like others have said, it's pretty annoying to wade through all the many posts of romance novels to find books I'm interested in. When I come here, I know I'm more likely to find deals on books I acutally care about!

Here's the rule I copied from a similar thread. Homeschoolers' Corner
I take that to mean you may say that you just posted 100 Abeka books to your shelf but you can't say 2 for 1 on my bookshelf. Am I interpreting that right? |

<<I take that to mean you may say that you just posted 100 Abeka books to your shelf but you can't say 2 for 1 on my bookshelf. Am I interpreting that right?>> So, in that case, since nothing is said about sig lines, we could just put something in our sig line about it :-) JC |

Why not just have one post each month for that months deals... I can't see how it would be a real problem to post it here in HS.... Since it was only one thread it wouldn't over run the HS forum, it wouldn't even have to be a sticky. Then if someone wanted to post deals they have on their shelf that month for HS books then they could post in that thread..... I have to totaly agree the BB forum is crazy and things get so lost there.... Just my 2 cents, Lisa Last Edited on: 2/15/08 9:35 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

I'm in favor of a monthly thread also! Can I also ask a really dumb question? I was reading in the above posts about your sig line how do you do your sig line? I've tried according to the help box but it never shows up, unless can I not see and everyone else can? Sorry I know it's a little off topic but if someone could help I would really appreciate it. |

You can change your sig as often as you like, and the benefit is that if you post in other forums it will show up there as well, giving your deal more exposure. I agree that the BB is chaotic and usually a big waste of time (people could prevent that by using a little common sense!) but it doesn't seem like there needs to be a rule change just for this forum. JMO There are lots of ways to let people know you have a deal going on. |

Yes, I like the monthly thread idea also, my deals are always lost over at BB and all my books are childrens and hoomeschool type. I also have a hard time finding deals on BB that are of books that I am interested in for the kids and homeschooling. |
