Any suggestions about how to find value of an old boxed set of "The Lord of the Rings"  it says second edition 9th printing.

You could always go to a site like fetchbook.info. It won't tell exact value of your book(s), but it will show you the people who have the same thing and what they are selling it for. It will give you a general idea and a starting point. Otherwise, you can pay $595 (if you're a librarian or dealer) or $800 (if you're not) for a year subscription at bookpricescurrent.com. They compile and record the prices for books sold at auctions(from 1975). If that's a bit steep, they sell the current volume for $165.
