I tried to post a copy of Martin Gardner's "Perplexing Puzzles and Tantalizing Teasers"  but my edition (copywrite 1969, published 1971) doesn't have an IBN number.  So I searched the database and found this:

http://www.paperbackswap.com/Perplexing-Puzzles-Tantalizing-Teasers/book/0486256375/

It has two members wishing for it but obviously they're looking for the newer edition.  Is there a way to post my book and maybe let the wishers know that it is available?

Thanks

Post yours using 'post without an ISBN' and the system will generate a unique ISBN. On each of the other two books add a tag that says something like 'also posted under ISBN xxxxxx' using the new ISBN for yours. You can take the tag off the other books whenever your book is ordered.

What Linda said, but unless the wishers for the newer edition look at the book detail page, they will not see it, however anyone else looking at the book details page will see it if they know where to look and it might be requested that way.

The Wishers will be notified via email by the system if they have activated the function 'similar to book on your WL".

With the short ISBN other wishers are not notified, because the book has to be linked to other editions for the "similar to" emails to go out, and PBS will not link short ISBNs since they are designed to be used only for that specific copy of a book.

Yes, that specific book is not WL, so it's okay to start a thread in the Book Bazaar forum to offer it to membership at large. You would post it without ISBN as I mentioned above and then someone can just order it if they're interested.

In regard to what Sally said in her second post in this thread...

From the Help Center doc "How the Wish List Works" :

More Basics :

  • The Wish List works by ISBN:
    • The ISBN you place on your Wish List will trigger a Wish List offer when that ISBN becomes available for you to request.
      • the exact ISBN will be offered to you exclusively for 48 hours; if you don't respond, the book will be made available to the next member on the Wish List, or released into the general database if no one else is Wishing
    • "Linked" ISBNs (other versions/binding types of the same title) will trigger alerts also, when they become available in the club.
      • However, these will NOT be exclusive offers; "similar items" will be offered simultaneously to everyone on the Wish List for any version of that title, on a first-come, first-serve basis.
    • Non-ISBN items do not work well with the Wish List:
      • Since each non-ISBN listing refers only to ONE copy of a book, that will be the only book that triggers a Wish List offer if a non-ISBN item is put on a Wish List
      • Non-ISBN items are not "linked" to any other items in the database, and will not trigger "similar-to-wished-for-item" alert emails.

There is a thread in the Bazaar for books WL under a different ISBN. You could advertise your book there.

Thank you all for you advice.  I'd just like to get the book into the hands of someone who'd enjoy it.

Yes, your book can be listed in the Book Bazaar and there are probablay several threads suitable for the purpose.  I haven't checked the rules in awhile, but I don't think it matters if the book is wishlisted or not.  Many member choose to post wishlisted books in the Book Bazarr for various reasons, such as they want to mail quickly and don't want to deal with long requester delays and roll-overs.

From the Book Bazaar Rules thread, this seems suitable to the situation:  (6) No trying to jump the Wish List "line" by offering or asking for postable Wish Listed books.  Postable Wish Listed books should be posted and swapped "officially".  This of course does not apply to posts advertising an alternate ISBN  (or non-ISBN version) of a Wish Listed title; it is fine to advertise that you have those posted to your account Bookshelf.
