I have an almost-mint hardcover, that at first, seems to have a cracked spine.  (Not cleaved, if I can keep the difference straight.) But upon closer inspection, it isn't the spine, it's more that this one page was out of place, almost sticking out too far from the spine, when it was bound.  It is not loose as the edge was not cut straight, but more like with tabs for tucking into the binding.  Those tabs are intact and tight.  This is not so easy to explain.

Is this postable?  I would definitely pm whoever ordered it, and I would cancel on my end if they didn't want it.  But even that, posting an unpostable and then pm'ing is tacky, eh?

It is otherwise a beauty of a book.

I would say if the page isn't falling out and is just sticking up higher than the other pages then yes it is postable.

I don't know if I would PM the person that requests it, that just opens up a can of worms IMHO!

The book was probably cut badly at the bindery. If you went in to the bookstore and looked at other copies, you would probably find any other copy of the same edition will have the same problem.

If I understand what you are saying...why not just cut the page to fit?  Unless you'd be cutting text, it sounds like a reasonable solution.

No, I really can't explain it, and while I can take a photo, I don't have anywhere to post it.

The outside edges are perfect.  Now, the inside edges that get bound, those apparently are not straight, they are tabbed.  I say this because that one page, is "out" a bit from the binding and I can see those tabs (maybe inch wide tabs) that are holding the pages to the binding.

I wish it were just poking out on the outside edge.

I think I will post it, PM after it is accepted, with the offer to cancel on my end.

Thanks for your replies.

Well, dang.  How many times have I seen others do that here.

Thank you so much for pointing that out for me, Jan.

Bonnie--

If this is a defect which occurred during publishing/binding, you could contact the publisher, explain the situation, and ask for a replacement copy.  Strange stuff happens all the time during the binding process, as other threads illustrate -- stuff inserted upside-down, missing pages, uncut pages, etc. and publishers and bookstores replace defective copies frequently.

Cheers,

Catt
