I have read all 5 of the previous books in the Patrick Bowers Series and have loved all of them. When I first heard of this book, I was excited to get to read more of Patrick's past as it concerned him and especially one of his past cases since it is mentioned throughout the series. Just let me say that this book did not disappoint in the least. I was hooked from the first page and just wanted to keep reading until I finished and even stayed up later than I usually do to read.

The author has done his research concerning past serial killers such as Jeffrey Dahmer and others along the same lines. Some of the descriptions in the book are fairly graphic, I think much more than the others in the series, so you might want to keep that in mind. Steven even mentioned in his intro that the writing of this book gave him nightmares. I thought his writing style in this book was grittier/harder than the others but that is just my impression. It didn't lessen my reading enjoyment a bit. That seems a trifle odd to say, that I enjoyed it and you are reading about cannibalistic behavior but I did. Steven's writing just draws you in from the first. I'm not going to say too much about the plot because that is a journey that you need to take for yourself but I will say that there are twists and turns as well as enough action to keep you on the edge.

In case you aren't familiar with Patrick Bowers series, here is just a bit of background from the description of The Pawn (first in the series): As an environmental criminologist, Patrick Bowers uses 21st-century geospatial technology to analyze the time and space in which a crime takes place. Using an array of factors, Bowers can pinpoint clues to solve the toughest of cases. Bowers's skills have made him one of the FBIs top agents.

Not the best book in the series but it was a fun prequel for those of us who have read the other books and got the references. Also a good filler while we await the final book in the series.
