A young American woman travels to the Philippines to bury her grandfather on the family estate. She quickly falls in love with the land, its people, and her heritage. She is also troubled by the violence and poverty of the country and the ever-present danger. Interesting look into the troubled land of the Philippines and the beautiful culture and people.
It's ok..... I didn't know much about the Philippines before reading this book, so it was nice to learn a bit about the culture.
If you know very little about the Phillipines, you will enjoy this well-written book. It is filled with the beauty of these islands, what life is like living there, the polical situation as well as a bautiful romance.
I enjoyed this book - and it helped to explain some of the political climate in the Philippines. Made it easier to understand some of what Gracia Burnham talked about in her biographical book. (Especially since all I knew was learned from MASH and news stories about Mrs. Marco's shoe collection.)
