Well, I'm now on the 4th request for a book that had several copies available in the system. I am hoping the book isn't jinxed.

1st sender - ordered the book with one other book to save the sender postage. They accepted the books, but they timed out when they never printed the wrapper or marked them sent.

2nd sender - order timed out without a response

3rd sender - cancelled the order, but thankfully they cancelled within a day.

4th sender - this time I may be lucky - They have accepted and printed the wrapper already, within a day. Hopefully, all will be fine.

Anyone else seem to have a "jinxed" book?

Not on here, but I keep ordering The New Dinosaurs: An Alternate Evolution by Dougal Dixon on Amazon.  It's the only one of his books I don't have.  I've never had a problem buying used books on Amazon, but so far I've ordered it three times from three different sellers and haven't received it yet.  They also haven't refunded my money, although all three have promised to do so.  I'm starting to suspect the book does not actually exist.

I have one wishlisted book that has been cancelled or timed out on me three times now.  I think jinxed is definitely the right word.

Well, at least the book I ordered isn't a wishlisted book...

But wait a minute - if it is truly jinxed, maybe it will end up being wishlisted. There are only 5 other copies of the book in the system, after all. :P

I had that happen last summer.  Ordered a book five different times, before giving up.  Someone started a thread very similar to this one in the CMT forum and when I posted my story, another member who happened to be reading that book, sent me a PM when she was finished, so I was able to order it from her. Frustrating, but persistence pays off. :-)

Yeah I had one like that.  Someone made me a BOB offer and saw a book on her shelf that looked good to me.  Well apparently someone else they was negotiating a BOB deal with responded first and also wanted that book.  No problem.  I notice there's only 1 other copy in the system so I went ahead and ordered it.  The request times out, book goes on my WL.  Not long after I get a WL offer for the book.  (not the same person as the time out), it gets accepted after a few days but then is never marked mailed.  Back on WL.  A short time later a 4th person posts the book and I finally get it.

I still have't read the book and that was probably over a year ago at this point.

Yup.  I've gone through up to 4 or 5 requests on a few books, all due to time-outs.  I do find that irritating as hell, even though I know there could be legitimate reasons for them.  I have two requests waiting for member responses since Monday.  Both books either have only 1 or 2 copies in the system, so it's possible I won't get either.

I've kinda had that happen to one book. The first copy was lost in the mail. The second copy arrived just days before it was going to be marked lost in the mail by the system.

I had it happen on a book I sent out once.  It was a WL book, so I figured it would get snapped up pretty fast.  But it went through two people that never accepted, the third person accepted it the book, but it went lost.  About a week after it was lost I got a letter from the post office with my label enclosed asking me to describe what was in the package and they would look for it.  Never had heard back from them.  I do hope the person who requested was able to get another copy without much hassle.
