I've searched help center and forum, and I'm sure I'm just using the wrong search terms, because this couldn't be the first time! I got an order for a book I've never heard of, that isn't on my shelf, that's never been on my shelf? I clicked that I couldn't send it and explained why in the text box, but does anyone have any thoughts on how this could happen? You guys are so smart, I'm sure someone can explain this to me! |

I've had it happen to me once and I'd never heard of the book. Someone suggested that maybe I entered the wrong isbn when adding a book to my shelf. I always double-check that things match before clicking "post this book", so I wasn't convinced that this is what happened. On the other hand, I couldn't think of any other explanation other than computer gremlins. |

I got an order for a book one time and the title didn't ring a bell. I went over both bins of books and didn't see it. I pmed the person and said I couldn't find it, ect.....Right after I sent it, I looked down and there was the book........ I sent another PM saying this is the disz who just said she didn't have a book...well I do. Got a nice PM back from here. She reordered it and it is at her house now! |

Sometimes ISBNs are shared by different books or different editions of the same book (PB and HC or HC and ARC). It *IS* important to check that bookname, author ISBN and booktype match when posting. |

I *did* check all that stuff. The book is *not* on my shelf. |

That has happened to me more than once -- and I carefully check each book after I post it to make sure I have posted the books that I physically have in my possession! |

Sounds like it's just a glitch in the system that pops up occassionally. |

This just happened to me tonight. I requested a book yesterday and got a request for me to send that same book to another member today. Obviously I don't have it myself yet. I have used this site for about 18 months with no system problems I am aware of, but now have had 2 odd glitches in the past couple of days. I wonder what is up?

Thanks Liese. Unfortunately, as I suspected, there's really no way for me to figure out what happened because I can't actually see the book on my bookshelf once the request is active. So I guess I'll just have to go to my grave wondering "what the heck"? Oh well, back to your regularly scheduled swapping! |

I vote for the computer gremlins. They invade at the most inconvenient times and in the most inconvenient ways, don't they? |

I received 2 like this in about the last 45 days. I must have looked for at least 30 mins or more and never could find the books. I'm not sure what happened. |

Awhile back I had a couple of books where after I had posted the book someone went in and 'corrected" the isbn and it was no longer the book I had. In my case the book was sold singly and as part of a boxed set and I just had the book by itself, but someone went in and changed it (you can request a change) to the whole set instead of the individual book. I'm not sure why it was allowed to happen b/c I bought the book outside of the set so it wasn't only sold in the set. I never was able to get an answer as to why the book was changed w/o informing those who had it posted as it originally was in the system, but I'd guess it's just an oversight that's boung to happen w/ so many books. Anyway, that's likely what happened w/ yours also. |
