If you are interested in urban poverty and race relations and how we got to where we are today, this is the book to read. "Sugrue finds the roots of today's urban povery in a hidden history of violence, discrimination, and deindustrialization that reshaped the American urban landscape after World War II." One of the best books I read in graduate school. I'm only passing it on because it is not in my field.
