I read as much as I can about Africa since I live there most of the year. This is a brutal account of a Afro-American's view of Africa. "Thank God my nameless ancestor, brought across the ocean in chains and leg irons, made it out alive. Thank God I am an American."
Rarely have I read a book as honest as this one! AND he writes EXTREMELY well.

I really knew next to nothing about modern Africa. I found this book to be enlightening albeit depressing. The African- American author's quest to put his African roots and his American upbringing into some type of perspective was extremely honest and courageous.
