because I had an emergency MOVE and then we had a new baby in the middle of the move (not me, my niece)! Well, because of the, about 20 books that were requested have been boxed up and I've not finished unpacking yet. They've been put back on my shelf. I still have the books to send. What do I do now? Should I just wait until someone requests them again, or what???

Any help you can give is appreciated!

Sheryl

I'm assuming this means you were timed out and they aren't on your main page to send again?  You could PM the people through the transaction archive and see if they still want the book.  depending on the book and if it was a FIFO system, they may or may not need it again.

best policy is to PM and explain what happened and ask what they want to do

I agree - PM them. My WL books are ones I really want to read, so I'd be thrilled to hear a book was available by buddying a credit instead of the formal request channel!

I'm in the other camp. PM the people who ordered the books and apologize, then repost them to your bookshelf. Here's why --suppose a new-ish (or just clueless) member requested the book from you. It timed out and she never noticed that her request was passed along to member X. He sent it to her but she hasn't received it yet. She gets a PM from you asking "do you still want this book?" She does not understand that you are not the member whose transaction is on her account page, and she has no idea why you are asking if she still wants a book that's supposed to be on the way already, so she says "yes, of course!" The book arrives and she marks X's book received, then she gets yours and has no clue why she got two copies or how to give you a credit.

If these books are wish list books, then the requestors were put back at the front of the line and when you repost the books they'll be offered to the same members and you can send them through a regular transaction.

If these are not wish list books, then the requests already got bounced over to the next sender and your copy will be the second one received.

I don't think you need to PM the people if the requests have timed out. It will just cause confusion.  Your account should have been put on hold.  Did you have to get reinstated by PBS because of all the missed requests?  I would just relist the books.  If someone put one on WL it will be offered to them.  Most likely the people who made the requests have gotten books from someone else in the FIFO system.  PMing them may just cause confusion.

Also, if something like this comes up again, remember the option of placing your bookshelf on vacation hold.  It saves a lot of hassle at the other end.
