There is a book available on overdrive that is an e-pub version. Is it possible to download this to my kindle? I don't think so, even if you got it loaded it wouldn't recognize an unknown format. They will recognize .azw, .kf8 and .mobi formats, but not epub. |

I have a Kindle Fire which I can read e-pub books on. That's all I use it for. A regular Kindle can't read an e-pub and not sure a Paperwhite can either. |

Can't think of how you can get around the DRM on a library book and it would suck to have your entire account disabled on the off chance. I think I might just download and read that one on the desktop or pass it by. |

Most overdrive libraries offer most of their books in either kindle or e-pub format. If the particular title your looking at is only in e-pub, it's distribution has probably been restricted by the publisher, so unfortunately there is no way to load it on to a Kindle Paperwhite. I belong to about five different libraries and they all offer most (but not all) of their books in Kindle format as well as e-pub. There may be some libraries out there that still don't support the Kindle format. |

No, sorry it wont work. I had to download Deeply Odd recently onto my smartphone because it is not on kindle on overdrive for my library. So if you have a smartphone you can download the app to read it there..:( |

I know I download Kindle books and convert them on my desktop, using Calibre. I do not know if you can go in the other direction. Part of this question becomes if it is an open ePub or an Adobe ADR DRM book. But this method would require a computer between the eReader and the library. it would not be a direct download.Last Edited on: 7/31/13 4:35 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

Emily- most overdrive books have Adobe ADR DRM. I tried to convert it with Calibre and it did not work at all. :( I needed Adobe ID to read it on my phone. |

There are plug ins to remove ADR DRM from Overdrive books. I will PM the link to Apprentice Alf's Blog directions if asked. But this does require the middle step of a computer with Calibre. The only way I know to download directly to a reader is using either the Kindle app or the Overdrive app. Overdrive is said to be working on an update to remove this. |

Thankyou for all the responses & comments. Ok, it's all too complicated - even if it is possible at all LOL. Reading on a smartphone, or even computer is not enjoyable to me. I'll just keep an eye out for a copy to become available on Amazon. Ebay etc. Or, a copy may even get posted here! Just FYI - it is a book from an overseas publisher (Australian ) so that may account for the restrictions put on the format (by the publisher) |
