So...long story short, I got an android tablet for Christmas (I am notably, not the tech savvy individual in my family). Anyway, I saw that there was an app for PBS called bookswapdroid and wanted to download it. I thought I did it correctly, but when it goes to sync with the site through the browser...nothing. I just have a blank screen. Did I do something wrong? Or maybe it just takes a really really long time to get to the site? I downloaded a couple of other apps and made the mistake of going, "oh, this is easy," right before I downloaded this one, so of course I've jinxed myself. Any ideas on what it is I have done? |

I have the paid version and just checked on my Android tablet and it is working properly. It could be that it was having difficulty connecting to the website right then. I would just try it again. Congratulations on receiving such a fun Christmas present! You must have been really good! |

I'm not sure if this will help, but there's another webiste address offered for mobile devices. (But maybe a tablet isn't considered a mobile device for this purpose.) This is from the Help Center: PBS MobileIntroduced July, 2007 Now you can take PBS with you, wherever you go.If you have a web-capable mobile phone, just bookmark this site on your phone's Web browser, and you can access a streamlined version of the site from anywhere! See your bookshelf, your Wish and Reminder Lists, and search the site by ISBN, title or author. Why use PBS Mobile?

The mobile format is made by PBS. The apps are not. They were made (and sold) by members.

I have an android tablet as well and have run across this issue with a few other apps. Not all apps will work on all devices. Amazon is really good at telling me if an app will not work with my device before I download and install it. But the Google store has let me download things that don't work with my tablet. So, I would try it again each day or so when you know you have a good internet connection. Also, make sure you have the latest version of the app, which you can check by going to the "My Apps" section of the store (Amazon or Google). It should tell you if you have updates to download and install. Some apps need an internet connection and some don't. My tablet is wi-fi only, so if I want to use an app that needs a connection, I have to make sure I am logged into a wifi network (or am a home and automatically logged on). If the other apps that run fine don't need a connection, that could be the problem. Make sure you can get to the PBS homepage from the tablet's browser before you open the app. If not, the issue is likely with the connection and not with the app, but it would be nice if the app told you "Can't connect" or something similar. If the app doesn't work at all for you, the mobile site is pretty good. I use it on my phone all the time. You can't scan UPC codes, but you can do everything else. Sometimes I have to click a button twice for the site to recognize the click, though. |

Thanks for all the suggestions, but I decided to take the coward's way out and return the tablet for cash. (I never could get the APP to work and just couldn't find enough to do on it that I could rationalize keeping it.) Thanks for all your suggestions, though, guys. I really appreciate it! |
