Hi, I'm new here and I'm not trying to be controversial or anything - just looking for information. I couldn't find a FAQ page. (Maybe I didn't look hard enough?) So far I've really enjoyed the site and have had great experiences. But I'm wondering, when I buy a book credit where does that money go?

Sherral - at the top of the page is a help center button  - there you'll find all kinds of information. Plus these forums are a great way to find out about PBS and the other members. Welcome!  Also your tour guide will be able to assist you - there should be a PM from him/her when you first signed up.

PBS is definitely a business. The fees go towards server and other operating costs. There have been plenty of discussions about this here and in the CMT (club members thoughts) forum, especially as the club membership transitioned from 'free' to paid. There are some employees, but many if not most, tasks are handled by volunteers.

PBS is a for-profit business on a shoe-string budget. For years PBS was a free site with no membership fees, but to cover operating expenses for servers, site maintenance and upgrades they recently (Feb, 2015) initiated two membership levels with fees for expanded and full services, while continuing a free, a-la-carte membership for basic services.

Many day-to-day services and activities that directly impact members' questions and needs are handled by volunteers, including Live Help, Tour Guides, Image Approvals, and Data Edit Approvals. In addition, the discussion forums are also a way to interact with other members and to help answer and respond to questions, concerns, and problems that come up.

Thank you all for your input! I don't know why I was so confused about that. I think the person who mentioned the site to me might have made it sound more like a not for profit, but of course it makes sense that this would be a job for someone. Thanks again!
