I just returned from the PO. This was the first time I used the DC feature. It was extremely busy and I was trying to keep my son entertained while she weighed and applied postage. I paid for my packages and went on my merry way. Upon looking at my receipt it looks like I was NOT charged for the DC even though I specifically stated that I needed her to scan the packages. She heard me and understood. Does this mean that all my many, many books will be coming back to me because they lack the postage? Or will they just be smart and not apply the DC to the package? If the books do come back to me will I have to repay for the postage to repost them? I will not be able to afford that at all so I am not sure what to do about this error.

This happens occasionally Jocelyne, but your clerk should have heeded your request to scan the DC's.  On my postage receipts, there is a seperate line item of .19 for each delivery confirmation.  I would call the postmaster and let them know the service you requested was NOT applied to your packages.

It's unlikely the packages will be returned, and if so the most you will be obligated to pay would be the DC cost since the error is theirs.  It's remotely possible that the packages will arrive with postage due for the .19 DC amount, which is your responsibility...PBS help documents should have a procedure.

I guess it is just a waiting game at this point. I did notice that she did scan the first few, but the rest she did not. How she couldn't see the barcode is beyond me.

I am leaning toward use the postage/dc option in the future. So much easier with young kids.

I've had this happen before, the clerk and I got to visiting and I think she just wasn't paying close attention and didn't scan any of the books going FC. I never heard anything from the senders about postage due and I didn't get any of the books back.

Welcome to PBS, Jocelyne!

I would recommend just keeping the receipt for the packages until all the books are marked received. Another option for mailing books in the future is using paypal to print your labels. You have to pay 19c extra (it's mandatory for all online postage) but not fees on top of it. With the PBS postage/DC you get your credit assured and also more quickly, but pay a bit to PBS in fees. It just depends on what you feel comfortable with.

Happy swapping!
