If you use PBS delivery and a book goes lost, do you still get the credit?

If you purchase Delivery Confirmation only from PBS, you receive the credit for the book the first time the book is scanned by the PO. And yes, you keep it even if the Book goes lost.

If you purchase postage plus Delivery Confirmation from PBS, you get the credit when you mark the book "Mailed". And you also keep the credit if the book goes lost.

Does anyone know that if a book goes lost, with PBS DC, but the book never shows up as having been received at the PO, will the member still get their credit?  I had a book supposedly shipped on 9/24, that doesn't show anything but the "received electronic shipping information", up until the day I sent the member a PM politely asking if they had really sent the book.  Surpise...suprise... the book was finally scanned into the PO on the day after I sent the PM.  But I'm still curious if she would have been able to keep the credit if it had never been scanned as received by the PO.

If you she used only PBS DC, she only got her credit when the USPS scanned it. If she used PBS postage, she would have gotten her credit as soon as she marked the book mailed.

Probably depends on the format Kate.

DC with postage the member retains the credit.  The majority of these are blue boxed, and therefore members have no control over when they are scanned or where USPS sends them.

DC without postage, the sender probably looses the credit if the book goes lost without a USPS scan.

I'm fortunate to live near enough to my PO to use PBS DC and counter postage...the best of both worlds!  My postal clerks are friendly and knowledgable  smiley

I recall the team saying once that if a sender has a good mailing record (and I'm sure you do) that you could contact them if an unscanned PBS DC book goes lost and that they would make the adjustment on a case by case basis.

Also check the USPS website for scans.  Sometimes they show up there way before they show up on PBS.  I have in the past, signed up for email notification, and a day later the book is scanned. I am sure it is coincidence, but ....

Thanks, I think I will start using the confirmation regularly.  I go to the PO every few days to get neighborhood mail (I am the Treasurer) so I only use PBS postage when I am in a real hurry but I think the confirmation is worth the money.

The case of PBS-DC only is addressed in the definition of Credit Assurance in the Help Center. Unfortunately that appears to only be done in pop up windows when you hover over the words and I can't copy it. The last line in says a member with a good sending record will get their credits if they contact the Team. If you search the Help Center for Delivery Confirmation and hover over Credit Assurance in any of the documents you should get the pop up window.
