Hello everyone! I am new on PBS and very excited to be a part of this community. I have traded books on another site for the last two years. Out of more than two hundred trades, I never had a complaint about a trade. I know the sites are very different. I reviewed the posting guidelines thoroughly before getting started. I just got a response from a trader who was unhappy with the trade because the dust jacket was not included. He asked for me to return his credit. I responded to the trader and apologized that he was unhappy and explained that I followed the posting guidelines. I also copied the section of the guidelines that refer to dust jackets and put that in my response. He did not specify in his requester comments that he required a dust jacket.  I do not feel obligated to return the credit since I followed the rules. I would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks, Laura

Welcome to PBS, Laura!

You are absolutely right. Per the rules, dust jackets are not required to make a book postable so if the requestor wanted it, he should have set a requestor condition (RC.) You don't have to return the credit.

Sadly, some people join PBS and (unlike you) don't read the rules so they don't know what to expect. Replying politely and quoting the Help Docs with the rules is the way to go.

I hope this doesn't discourage you! PBS is a wonderful place with a lot of great people. I'm really sorry you encountered a problem with one of your first swaps.

D.G. is correct. The fault is his, not yours. You are under no obligation to return his credit.

Sorry you had a problem so soon!

You will find that problem transactions are actually pretty rare.

Welcome to PBS, Laura. It is refreshing to hear someone read the posting guidelines BEFORE posting books. You did exactly right..and like it was said, problems are few and far between.

I was going to say just what Denise said...very refreshing to have a new person who has prepared ahead and read the rules! I also am sorry you had a problem swap right off the bat...most of the time the transactions go smoothly, and as a 6+ year PBS veteran I have to say I can count the number of problem swaps on one hand.

You did just fine and handled it perfectly by pointing him to the PBS guidelines. Some people seem to expect a PM for out of the ordinary things like lack of a dust jacket or that a book is ex-library...but it is the responsibility of the requestor to have those preferences cited in a Requestor Condition and indeed you do NOT have to let people know that information ahead of time.

Welcome Laura, happy to see someone reads and follows posting guidelines. Keep the credit and use it for what hopefully will be the start of many more hassel free trades.
