Yesterday, I brought my PBS postage/DC packages to the PO counter just to make sure they were priced correctly. Usually, I just place them in my mailbox or the blue box. The Postmaster of the PO told me that I would have to wait until the 19th to mail them as the wrapper stated that date. She said that whenever I send them out with prepaid postage, I have to mail them on the day that the wrapper states. For example, if today is the 17th, then the wrapper has to state the 17th. and not any later, Is she correct? I had never heard this before and have sent many books with predated wrappers into the blue boxes. I understand that if the wrapper says the 17th, and I decide to mail it tomorrow, I would have to go to the PO to have them update the wrapper to the correct date. But, if the wrapper says the 19th and I can mail it today, why can't I mail it?

you can mail early  i have done it no problems

next time asked to see thast rule that says you have to mail on the posted date'

from pbs help files

It is okay to mail it earlier than the date; your package may be returned to you if you mail it after that date.

  • If you put it into a collection box after the last day's scheduled collection, then the package will be accepted with the previous day's date when the next collection happens on the next day.

Thank you Mark, I never had any problems either before hearing this from the lady at the PO. I started printing the date a couple of days later because a few times something came up on the day that the wrapper said and I had to go to the PO the day after and have them redate it. This way I avoid having to rush to the PO especially during this busy season. All the books were priced correctly so hopefully I can go back to my usual procedure and send them from my mailbox or the nearest blue box so I don't have to deal with our local PO. This isn't the first time they have given me the wrong information.

I just received a book today with the PBS postage/DC dated on December 20th. It came all the way from MS to MI, so she sent it before the date with no problems. It's just another case of my PO being misinformed, and that is way too often.

I received a book yesterday, I received it before the date on the PBS postage.  Obviously no problems there either.
