The new PERN novel will be in my mailbox Wednesday around noon. Can't wait. While It took me a while to make the transtion form Anne McCaffrey's charecters to her son Todd's, I'm now completely hooked. I only wish I had time to start the whole adventure all over. Again!

Here's a link if anyone else needs to get it now!

Well, have you finished the book yet?  Any good?  Last Pern book I read was the one about the plague - kinda put me off the series.  I've wondered what the last few Todd books were like.......

Hello, I haven't read any of Todd's books except for one that he co-authored with Anne. I'm sure I will enjoy them! I have read many of Anne's Pern series although I have a few I've missed somehow. I'm hoping to change that soon. I find the McCaffery book to be great escape mechanisms for me. If I can get very nterested in a book, I can block most pain below my neck :o) Since I have arthritis days, Anne has helped me weather the storm many times.

Good reading everyone!

I haven't followed this forum before and searched for this information before posting but got impatient sifting through all the hundreds of results, so forgive me if this is redundant. I just found this article talking about the Dragonriders of Pern books, or at least the first one, moving to film.

I love these books and yes, Todd's are as good in some ways as Anne's but not always. One if the books seemed to run in circles, but that could have been me too. Since the series started with Todd being told stories by mom as a kid, he is a logical one to carry on.

My favorite of all the books are the ones focused on Master Robinton. Love that character and Anne must have loved the man she modeled him after! It will be interrsting to see how the casting goes for the film. That will be critical to making it or ruining it for all.

That casting is in good hands. Bad enough that Cruise is playing Jack Reacher.  I love Lee Childs books, but hope the movie is a flop. I wo'nt be seeing it. Never paying money to support anything that nutcase Cruise does. He has to stand on a box to kiss his own wife, so how is he going to be Jack Reacher, the guy who intimidates all?

Back to Pern, Let's hope for the best and that Anne is around to see this happen. It would be a great thrill for her to see this done well!

Unfortunately, that won't be the case -- she died yesterday, age 85.  What a loss to the sci-fi/fantasy community.
