I got a book request a few days ago. I saw in my email that there was also a PM about it so I didn't accept the book request right away but read the PM instead. The requester did not have an RC on the request but instead asked via PM that the book be in like new condition as it is going to be a gift. The book is postable but NOT in like new condition (front cover has a TINY but still visible tear) which I told her and then asked her to cancel from her end since this is a heavily posted book and if I've finally gotten to the top of the FIFO list I don't want to lose it. However she doesn't want to cancel she wants me to cancel which I don't think is right. Now she's ignoring my PMs completely. I don't want to send her the book if it's not what she wants but I do think I should be allowed to retain my FIFO position. I've only got 1 more day to accept the request or I will lose my place in FIFO. Should I accept the request to buy a few more days and see what the requester does, and then contact the team if she never gets back to me? I already suggested that she cancel my copy of the book,  then create an RC for this specific book so when she re-requests I can cancel without losing my place in FIFO and her book will just go on to the next person, but I got no response to that eithr.

Stubborn members who don't understand how the system works makes me crazy!!! Yes, she is definitely the one to cancel. I would PM her one more time asking her to cancel so that you do not lose your place in FIFO. You can also ask her to set up an RC for this book only and use it after she cancels the request so that you can turn it down and it goes to the next member. If you do not have a response by tomorrow, then contact the team and ask them to intervene. You should not have to pay the price for the other member not using the system correctly!

I'd PM one more time and explain that if she does not cancel the request by X time/day, you will accept the request and mail the book.  Because there are no RCs on the request, she can't RWAP it for conditions not met, and if the book is otherwise postable, she shouldn't be able to RWAP it for any other reason either.  At the very least, there is a record of your PM exchange if anything is ever called into question by the PBS team.

I would explain to her in one more PM what will happen if she doesn't cancel.  She will get the book anyway and have no reason to mark it RWAP.  I might add in the PM, that if marked RWAP the team would hear about it immediately.

I agree with those suggestions.  Ask her to cancel it herself, it only makes sense since she's the one who doesn't want it.  Tell her if she doens't cancel it you will accept and mail.  That's what the rules say and you will follow them.  I would be sure to mail it with DC though in case she refuses to mark it received.

Yes Bren, you are correct in how you expect the transaction should proceed.  The requester should cancel, add an RC, and then re-request the book.  Obviously with multiple copies in the system, they should soon receive one in the condition wanted.

I disagree with accepting and mailing, you would be just asking for a RWAP ... justified or not it would still be on your record.   Explain the situation again, and if the requester does not cancel the transaction I would wait until about 24 hours before the request times out and read OP again, appears you're already within that time frame, so just do it now ... contact TPTB.  Include a copy of the pm'd conditions, mention subsequent non-response by requester, and ask them how to proceed.  You should not loose your position FIFO, and you shouldn't have to accept a request with high potential for problems (do you really need the hassle?).

I'd accept with that last possible mail by date. Then I'd PM and say I'm sending it by the mail by date unless she cancels it.

I would definately use PBS DC on this one so she can't say she never got the book and if she does you'll still get credit.

One RWP would not harm your record in the slightest especially since you have the PM to prove what she's trying to do.

YOu could accept and then try contacting PBS to speak to this person.

Interesting - the request was just cancelled AND the member's account was put on hold - which it wasn't just a few hours ago. Oh well at least I don't have to worry about it anymore.

Perhaps she tried working her way around the system with other members too, and someone else reported her first.

Did you contact the Team, Bren? Most likely they canceled the request and put her account on hold until they have a chat with her.

I WOULD NOT MAIL the book, cause she could just say it never got there so she doesn't lose a credit.  Contact TPTB after she doesn't cancel by time you're to mail book out.

Glad she finally cancelled.  She would have been a nightmare.  If she wants a NEW book she should have a RC in place or order from Amazon.

Bren, now your book is free to be offered to another wisher ... hope the next transaction goes smoother!
