My book meets all the requestor's conditions, except that she says no "ex libris... or books otherwise marred by glued paper strips or ink markings" The only marking is my name written small in ink on the flyleaf, She says to PM her if in doubt. But if I understand correctly, I have to accept the request before I send a PM. And then if she doesn't want it, it gets marked "cancelled by sender," and it goes back to the bottom of the FIFO list. Do I understand correctly? Because if so I'll just deny the request. |

I would just say no. If she wants people to PM her about a book she needs to include her nickname in her RC. Otherwise you have to accept first which just (IMO) causes more problems. |

I would just deny the RC, too. If your book is #1 in the FIFO line, it will get requested again soon enough. |

But be sure to state why it does not meet her RC. That gives her the chance to re-request the book with the RC off. |

Since she says "otherwise marred by...ink markings" I'd say your book does not meet her conditions. If you want to accept and PM, then all you have to do is have HER cancel the transaction if she doesn't want your copy, then when she requests it again you can deny her RCs. Some people don't want to deal with that, but it is quite simple. |

If I understand correctly (I'm new, and this is the first time this has happened), my reason for not accepting the RC is shared with the requestor. Is there a way for her to request it directly from my bookshelf if I give my nickname in the explanation? |

Katherine - If you don't accept the RC, her request will move on the next person in the FIFO line. |

Yes, if you give your nickname, she will be able to find you again to order it if she wants to turn off her RC and order it., that's if there are no other copies in the system--otherwise it just moves on to the next person, but your copy stays at #1 for the next who wants it. I am in agreement with the others who say it's always best to decline if you aren't sure. To me, it's the responsibility of the person writing the RC to make them clear enough to senders whether their book meets conditions. In your case, it's one of those "iffy" things, but as she specifically mentioned no ink, I'd say no. I'm guessing she *means* no ink stamps from libraries since everything else seems to relate to what you'd find on an ex-library book, but it's always best to err on the side of caution, I think. I don't PM about RCS. If they aren't clear enough for me to tell then I decline. It's a used book and I'm not going to negotiate over it's condition. Plus then you have to worry abotu what to do if they don't respond by the mail by date. It just opens a can of worms. I would assume since there is a name written in your book that it doesn't meet their conditions. |

Thanks, everyone. I did, in fact, decline the request, and I put my nickname in the explanation. There are other copies in the system, but I think this is the only hardcover. We'll see what happens. |

With an RC like that, I doubt that member gets many books. I would decline also. |
