I know technically I should post this on the postal board there's hardly any action over there.  I'm just venting anyway.  It was not my normal PO although I"ve taken DC books to it before with no problem. THe books were not scanning and he said I should get the discount for DC unless I use the printed postage as well.  I only use DC for game books where it's required and when I have multible books in an order.  That was the case today. I had 2 packages with multiple WL books so I wanted the DC on them.  The other clerk agreed with him. I told him at the PO I normally go to, which is just down the road btw, the girl just scans them and it adds the .18 to the postage.  There's a 3rd PO that I use sometimes and I've never had a problem there either.  I'll have to remember not to go to this PO again.

That's weird...I've never had a problem with using PBS-purchased DC at the PO. I usually use PBS postage, but for BoB, I always take them to the PO. Have you tried using the automatic postage machine? I just use the media mail chart (since it doesn't calculate MM for whatever reason) from the usps website and add 18 cents to the correct amount. It saves a lot of time!

None of our POS have an APC.  Normally I don't even use DC because after awhile the cost just adds up to way more than a lost book would have cost.  But I used it today because I had multiple WL books going out in a couple packages.  I usually just use it on game books. But I've never been given a hard time before. I had to explain a couple times what it was though.

The scanner at my PO is broken, so the girl has to key in my numbers.  I've got all my PO employees trained now.  ;)

Don't know about some of your Post Offices, but they took the APC out of ours. Can't remember the reason now, but it had something to do with the machines not working properly.  Pat

When he scanned them it kept saying "invalid #" or something. Then he went into how I should get a discount since I didn't use the printed postage.

My guys are GREAT!!  There is one lady who was new to me andshe was blankly staring at the package with the DC on it. I told her to can the bar code and it would add the .18......she said ok and did what i suggested.  They all seem to know what to do...or can look like they know what they are doing.

You can go right on the USPS site and create a label with DC but no postage.  That DC still qualifies for the free rate for Priority Mail.

You can also download Shipping Assistant (again from the USPS site) and use that to create labels for FC and Media mail (again, no postage paid) and those labels qualify for the reduced rate DC since it's electronic DC.

Sounds like the clerk needs to learn about e/DC and how it works because you don't have to pay your postage electronically to get an e/DC label.

I use DC EVERY TIME, I NEVER print postage, since I want the nice lady at the post office to tell me when first class is cheaper - I didn't even know I was getting a discount! LOL. no one ever said anything to me.
