I loved this story! I went into it knowing nothing other than it was a comedy about a string of bad events happening to a guy in a short amount of time. A few short pages in I was totally hooked and unable to put it down, and not having realized that it was written in the early 70's, the New York of that era was a pleasant surprise. This story would make an excellent movie, so vividly is it played out.

a novel in which everything which could possibly go wrong happens to the unwitting protagonist, forcing him to take matters into his own hands and turn the tables on an unlucky burglar. brilliant!

Though a little slow the first few pages, it soon picked up and hilarity ensued.
I picked the book up off the shelf because of it's title. The fact that the main character is so down on his luck and still manages to have a sense of humor was amazing. The actually plot, being robbed three times and finally getting lucky by catching him and tying him up. I could not stop laughing at some points. James Kirkwood managed to keep me so interested in what was going on I couldn't put the book down until I was finished.

This is a completely twisted story of one man's horrible robbery and adventures in writing a book.
