I tried to remember being 17 years old, but there are only bits and pieces buried in my memory. As I read this story, the feelings came back and I knew that being 17 is like being on another, scary planet. Picoult resurrects the intensity of feeling, the immaturity of judgement, and applies the "what if" as she knows how to do so well, to produce a gripping and frightening picture of adolescence. Parents, listen to your children, and then read between the lines!

This is probably my 2nd favorite Picoult. It's well written and gripping. I read the book a while back, but grabbed the audio when I saw it on sale. The audio is fabulous, the narration is perfectly executed.
My previous thoughts from early last year:
How well do you know your child? How many parents knew their child was suicidal before they killed themselves? As parents, we like to believe we know our children, that we are close to them and that they tell us everything. Those of that remember being teenagers ourselves, know that isn't actually true ;)
I was up until 3am finishing this book. I could not put it down. In typical Picoult style, there's the "shocking twist", but the deeper levels of the book - how much you really know about your kids - is what kept me interested. I have a 4 and 6 year old. The fact that they will one day be teenagers scares the heck out of me.

The Pact was, once again a great novel by Jodi! She does a great job developing characters and courtroom settings. I would have to say that so far my fave is definately My Sisters Keeper, then Perfect Match...with this book being my 3rd fave between them. Focusing around life long friends, turned lovers, ending tragically in what looks like a suicide pact, the book develops well and all, but i guess i expected a more climactic ending that i fould typical of Jodi. Thats all i will say as to not discourage one to expect disappointment...NOT AT ALL.... i think any Picoult fan would agree that you become "conditioned" to almost sub-conciously anticipate a gut-wrenching twist!!! But nontheless, this book was EXCELLENT! Highly Recommended!
