I  listed a book club book, didn't realize the ISBN came up as a hardback. It was on a WL, so it was requested, that's when I noticed. I just joined, so am not sure if it's okay to send it or if that's frowned on since it's not *exactly* as described. Is it ok to send a paper back version or do people get upset if the book isn't actually a hardback? Is there some way to ask the requester? (I saw that option on another item requested, but not this one, but maybe I missed it).

TIA

Welcome to PBS.

It is not okay to sent it without asking.  You can send a PM after you accept the order.  Please select the last possible mail date, then send them a PM.  It will be your responsibility to cancel the order if it is not okay or if you do not hear back from them.   Make sure the receiver knows this.  They should NOT cancel the order, you should if they do not want the PB.  If they cancel, they will lose their place in line.  In addition, you would roll over to the next member and have to do this all over again.  It is your responsibility to cancel.

Some members would be pleased to receive the PB.  Some would not.

Please check that it is not an ARC (Advanced Reader's Copy).  If it is an ARC, you need to accept the order, then apologize, then cancel the order.  It is never okay to send an ARC through the system.  There is a thread just for ARCs in the Book Bazaar thread.

Thanks. I definitely didn't want to send if it wouldn't be okay. It's a book I ordered years ago from a book club, do those count as ARCs? I only had this problem with older book club books (I deleted my other listing til I knew what to do with it).

I will accept and send a PM as you said to.

Thanks for the help!

Also, if they decline you can post the book using a "short ISBN" which will be unique to your book. To do this, after you click "post this book", you'll see a link near the bottom that says "I have a different book than the ones shown above." That will take you to a page where you'll be able to add all the correct information on your copy.

It's not uncommon for a publisher to re-use an ISBN several times for different versions of a book. You just need to make sure that title, author, ISBN, and book type match.

Thanks, Lisa! I have another that came up the same way, I'll go give that a try now.

This is very common with book club books.  In my experience it's usually one of those smaller sized hardcovers with the mass market paperback ISBN.

I've had this happen before. I check all my books when I post them to my shelf and have no idea how the book slipped through as a hardcover! It got requested and when I was printing the wrapper, I realized it was listed as hardcover. I just PM'ed the requester and told her and asked her if it would be okay if I still sent it. She said that was fine and the transaction was perfect :)

Nice catch Thyra (especially for a newbie), welcome to PBS!  What Emily said  yes if you need to post the book without an ISBN (short) Lisa has posted the info.
