Does anyone know anything about Pat Conroy's newest book? Rumors have been out there for over a year that he has one "almost ready" to release but yet we have seen nothing. His website says This site will soon be operational, please check back now and then. |

I didn't know he was writing a new book, but I love him. Everything I've ever read by him has been amazing. |

His new book was supposed to be about Charleston and entitled "South of Broad". I thought he completed it. Not sure why it's not out yet unless he's still editing. I think it was over 1000 pages (yay- hope they don't make him cut it).

Yep to what Eileen said. The last quote I saw from him: "I've recently completed South of Broad, about a child growing up in Charleston. The book is set between 1979 and 1990 and clocks in at a hefty 1,000 pages. They say it's much too long," he said of his publishers. "I do not have the gift for shortness, for concision. That was denied to me at birth. It's a flaw in my character. ... My books are too long when they're published." That was back in February, but I've never heard anything about an actual publication date though. Last Edited on: 10/17/08 12:05 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

Some friends who are authors and do the festival tours and events say Conroy is having health problems, which is why the book keeps getting pushed back. For fans, if you have not read his "cookbook," PLEASE do so! I overlooked it for the longest time. But it has as much text and essays as recipes, and it is incredibly fun reading. Same for the book he did about basketball. I am not a big basketball fan, so I let that one go for a while. But the book is so much more than that. If you like his other books, I'd bet anything you'd like this one. |
