Pattern on Pattern Spectacular Quilts from Traditional Blocks
Author: Ruth B. McDowell
Here's how to create dazzling new designs from traditional patterns--simply by enlarging, reducing, rotating, or overlapping basic quilt blocks to create "special effects" of fabric, pattern, and color. This is a great choice for quilters who are looking to create unique effects with simple techniques.

This is obviously one of her earlier books. the patterns are for hand piecing. If you are a more experienced quilter, you can adapt the pattern designs to be done with rotary cutting. It is a neat book. it shows how to take a traditinal design and change it up to look much more modern. All you have to do is use today's fabrics and you can have a lot of neat quilts.

This technique takes a basic traditional block (such as maple leaf or Jacobs ladder) & updates it by: expanding into the borders, overlaying a larger version of the same using different color values, compressing & overlapping the patterns at new points.
