I love Ann Beattie's short stories, and this collection is a wonderful as I expected, which is why I gave it five stars!
This book contains 11 present-day stories set mostly in either Maine or Florida. In them, she creates a range of memorable characters and situations, from a penniless war veteran to a celebrity "foodie" who vacations in Key West and agrees to prepare an impromptu meal for President Clinton. As always, Beattie is a terrific writer, and she has a fine eye for people, their foibles, and the complexity and quirkiness of American life

The eleven short stories in this book show us how to appreciate vulnerabilities and absurdities as the facts of midlife. If you are a reader of short stories, you will enjoy this one.
