Well researched, easy to read. Peter was a very coarse person with some seeds of greatness. It seems he has 2 lasting legacies: he built St Petersburg and he forced the Russians to put off their warm caftans and come into the modern age. It's a good read, but Peter himself is repulsive. The Bible says God makes the lowest people kings and this man would seem to prove the point.
