My son is 5 and he has trouble with phonemic awareness. Anyone have an idea of what I can do to help him.

Try this book: Reading Reflex by Carmen McGuinness. ISBN-10: 0684853671

It's an alternative way of learning to read with an emphasis on phonetics and phonemes. I used it with my grandson.He needed remedial work with phonetics. It's not as technical as it looks and my grandson enjoyed it. We spend many a day fooling around with sounds and writing them down. If it's not available here Amazon has it second hand for a decent price.
